Welcome, I am Ann and I am a person centred counsellor who also uses other theories to make sure my clients have the best possible experience, and to help them work through whatever difficulties they are having. I offer a safe, non judgemental and totally confidential space to share your fears and needs. I feel it is really important to build a trusting and empathic relationship and offer a free initial discussion to explore this.
About me and my practice
I am an integrative counsellor which means I utilise various therapies to work with my clients. I have specialist qualifications to deal with domestic abuse and bereavement and I have worked with women and men who are wanting help with addictions to alcohol and drugs. I aim to build a warm and empathetic relationship with clients and provide a safe environment to help you thrive and move forward with your life. Trauma impacts so many lives and I have qualified to work with trauma victims including veterans and victims of serious crimes.
I believe that you are the expert on you but people, events and losses can cause us to lose sight of our true selves. Our confidence and ability to manage successful relationships diminish and we can lose our way. I will listen to you and empathise to help you strip away the conditioning which is causing your distress. Through a trusting and therapeutic relationship, we will work together to help you see your way through life's bumps in the road.
Often, self-esteem has been destroyed because of conditioning experienced over time from family, friends, colleagues, teachers and I work to help strip away that conditioning and rebuild essential self-belief.
I work with adults and couples and I have experience of working with clients from all walks of life. My client base is diverse and I also work alongside clients with autism and psychosis.
Experience
Since qualifying, I have managed a team of counsellors in a charity supporting women in York. This has given me opportunity to build on my work with victims of domestic and sexual abuse. I also help clients who are suffering from trauma, loss, bereavement, low self-esteem and all forms of addiction. Anger, anxiety and depression are regular issues which I have the experience to work with.
Alongside this, I set up my private practice in 2019 which is where I have built up my experience of working on-line and I have qualified to be a counselling tutor.
